In a concerted effort to address the critical issue of access to clean water in the Niger Delta, BHAFIT Initiative and EnvironFocus joined hands under the auspices of the Safe Drinking Water Project, aligning with Sustainable Development Goal 6. The focus of BHAFIT Initiative in this collaboration centred on the efficient transportation of membrane ultrafilters from the Abuja port to nine Rotary clubs in the Niger Delta. This strategic move carried out in December 2023, ensured that 10 Lifestraw Max units were effectively distributed to different hospitals in the region. BHAFIT played a pivotal role in managing logistics and facilitating the smooth movement of these transformative devices.
The impact of this initiative is profound. With 10 Lifestraw Max units, each capable of serving up to 400 people daily, the collaboration has the potential to reach 4,000 individuals across various hospitals every day. Noteworthy is the sustainability of this endeavour, as each Lifestraw Max can provide up to 180,000 litres of filtered water before requiring a filter cartridge change. The advanced carbon filter embedded in the Lifestraw Max eliminates viruses, bacteria, parasites, microplastics, lead, chlorine, and other chemical contaminants from the water.
Operating under the guiding principle that “Prevention is better than cure,” BHAFIT Initiative is a Health through Fitness initiative dedicated to providing individuals and communities with a pathway to sustainable good health through fitness and wellness practices. The initiative employs a comprehensive approach, focusing on preventative medicine and utilizing various methods and metrics to achieve its objectives, achieving the sustainable development Goal 3 – Good health and Well being. Key elements of their approach include:
- Exercise for Life: Recognizing the pivotal role of physical activity in overall well-being.
- Healthy Food for Medicine: Advocating for consuming nutritious food as preventive medicine.
- Clean Water Sources: Emphasizing the critical importance of clean water for drinking and other purposes.
- Clean and Green Environment: Acknowledging the significance of a pollution-free environment for pure oxygen and disease eradication.
- Vaccination Advocacy and Support: Actively promoting the importance of vaccinations for disease prevention.
- Organizing Awareness Drives: Engaging in public awareness campaigns and media facilitation to disseminate crucial health information.
While actively participating in these initiatives, BHAFIT supports foundations, NGOs, medical organizations, educational institutions, governments, religious bodies, and corporate organizations, assisting them logistically and otherwise in achieving their health-related targets.
Through its partner, the Etre En Forme Academy (BEFIT ACADEMY), BHAFIT contributes to fitness education, developing aspiring fitness practitioners and enabling them to acquire certifications for fitness training as instructors.
Registered as the Bobzom Health and Fitness Initiative in Nigeria, BHAFIT is a beacon of proactive health management. The collaboration with EnvironFocus under the Safe Drinking Water Project is a testament to the organization’s commitment to holistic well-being. By ensuring access to clean water, they are not only addressing an immediate need but also contributing to the long-term health and sustainability of communities in the Niger Delta. This collaboration exemplifies the power of collective action in bringing positive and lasting change to communities in need. Contact BHAFIT Initiative via email at email@example.com.
