EKCEP Spring 2022 session started on April 25, 2022, and it will run for nine weeks, and we are currently in week 7! We introduced the UN2030 Agenda and the SDGs, emphasizing SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and the EKCEP objectives to the students. Our goal is to provide students with the help of their teachers with the resources (knowledge) they need to help find solutions that can aid the effective transformation of the world into a better place for all. The students will work together to raise funds for a project aligned with SDG 11.
The students of Value Spring College Okota Lagos, Nigeria are participating in EKCEP Spring 2022, alongside students from David Suzuki Secondary School Brampton and Central Peel Secondary School, Brampton Canada where they are learning to be community leaders. Fundraising Story: Hello, we group B working on a project focusing on our country Nigeria. We love our country and would like to see it prosper. Unfortunately, research has shown that regional inequality is high, especially in the northern parts of Nigeria. So income inequality is a major problem in Nigeria as over 94.4 million live in abject poverty as shown in the pictures below.
The helping hand you give today will surely come back to you not only as a blessing but as a beacon of hope to the less privileged. We cannot wait anymore for others to do it for us. We’ve decided to take a step and fight it face-to-face! With your help, we are surely achieving this goal effortlessly. Nothing is ever too small. Thank you and God bless.

Fundraising Story: Hello, our names are Chidera Mma, Newman Okechukwu, Justice Oguanya, Timilehin Olowu and Onyinye Moneke. We are students of Value Spring College, Okota, Lagos and we are also part of EKCEP.
Over the past few years, we have seen how waste has been collected and indiscriminately dumped, waste that can be recycled into reusable materials. The funds raised for this project will be used for hiring a waste truck, separating the waste, and transferring the waste to manufacturing industries. The funds will ensure that our little part in maintaining a sustainable environment is achieved. It will help reduce pollution caused by waste by reducing the amount of waste dumped on empty lands and in water bodies. It will also reduce the decay of waste thereby reducing the amount of oxygen being removed from the atmosphere.
In the past, industries and individuals have also attempted to reduce this by hiring individuals to pick the plastics but this was shabbily done. When the waste started piling in heaps, we realized that we needed the help of our community. Luckily, the EKCEP came along and we made a choice to make this our group project.

Please add: Re: EKCEP Group G
Fundraising Story: Nigeria is characterized by a high level of insecurity, ranking it one of the least peaceful countries in the world. As of March 2022, Nigerians ranked their concern of robbers and thieves on a scale of 0-100 points (100 being the most severe concern) within their community. It was reported as 66.04 points that the people of Nigeria ranked larceny as their most significant concern within their neighbourhood.
The increase of crime, homicide, and poverty is rising and contributing to the insecurity within Nigeria, and the problems that the people of Nigeria are enduring are affecting their livelihoods. Nigerians inhabiting internally displaced camps are being overwhelmed with shortages of (water, food, and clothing). Insecurity is the state of being open to danger or threat; or the lack of protection.
This is an undesirable situation for humanity, as it hinders human freedom, pursuit of prosperity, social interaction, and the necessity for a sustainable community. Our goal with this project is to alleviate Nigerians from the pressures of insecurity by fundraising money for small businesses to support them, providing food and relief materials for the internally displaced peoples (IDPs), and investing money towards providing Nigerians with the tools to acquire skills for self-development.

Group 4 EKCEP Spring 2022: SDG11 Campaign and Fundraiser Titled: Gardening for Sustainable Communities

Link to donate: https://gofund.me/f92aa63e

Fundraising Story: Gardening contributes to major environmental benefits,
including the protection of biodiversity, improving the quality of air, enabling reverberation and
evapotranspiration, reducing cooling costs, preventing soil erosion, and reducing carbon
footprints. It may be disbelief that there are several more benefits of gardening. Our mission as participants of the Spring EKCEP Exchange Program of 2022 is to promote safe and reliable communities.
We will be giving out free gardening kits to 50 homes located in the GTA. Each package
will contain the following: 1 box of soil, 1 mini-gardening pot, and 1 packet of seeds. The people
who are given these gardening kits will be advised to plant a few or all of the seeds provided in
the kit with care, either in their yards or any other environment. Lastly, it would be advised to the
individuals to send pictures of their involvement to us. These gardening kits will be bought with
money earned from our fundraiser, which will be open for donations.
Encouraging the community to take small actions, such as gardening, will not only be
beneficial for the reasons stated previously, but it will also be a great way to spend time outside
during pleasant weather. We want to put out that doing things, such as gardening a few plants, can emotionally and appearance-wise create a safer feeling in the community.
Support the EKCEP students today on their journey to making sustainable cities and communities!
Note: The Fundraiser is now closed and we appreciate all the donations!
