About The Redwood (VAW) Violence Against Women Shelter

The Redwood (VAW) Violence Against Women Shelter provides services, inclusive to all women and their children, trans and gender diverse individuals who are disproportionately impacted by gender-based violence. The clients that we serve are victims of abuse that takes place in their home which is supposed to be a safe environment for them and their children. Our clients carry with them the traumatizing experience done by the person that promise to protect and provide them with a better life.

HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) Staffing Program

HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) Staffing program is developed to address this issue and help women, trans, non-binary and two spirited individuals get certification and training a Gas Technician, that can lead to secure employment within the HVAC industry and ultimately gain financial stability.

HVAC Gas Technician trainees may face many obstacles along the way, having to attend program online and in-person and, sometimes, to juggle life as a single parent. Yet one thing is certain, The Redwood HVAC participants want to finish their training to obtain their Gas Technician license and to be employed in the industry as well to have a sustainable income and better employment within the field.

The testimonials from our recent graduates and those already working in the field are heartwarming. The happiness and excitement they share to the team and the excitement in heading to work every day and overcoming the fear to work in an industry that is still male dominated is empowering. Our participants’ perseverance in the face of adversity is really inspiring.

Sustainability as a gas technician is extremely important, and to me means broadly speaking; helping to foster an understanding of how we can ultimately take care of the environments that we live and work in. As well as we can reduce emissions and overall costs to the general population as much as possible.

“Sustainability means being able to satisfy the needs of the current generation without compromising the needs of the future generation. It’s the ability to support a process continuously over time. It means being able to create a balance social well-being, economic growth, and environmental care by preventing depletion of natural and physical resources so that they remain available for a long time. As a Gas technician or any other person working in HVAC industry, we have a responsibility of ensuring that we contribute positively to wads this balance.”
