Empowering Our Community with Tools for Better Oral and Overall Health
The Sustainability Community Aid Network (SCAN) is proud to partner with Wellfort to host an impactful workshop focused on Dental Health Awareness and Support. This collaborative event is designed to provide essential education, resources, and support to help community members, especially those facing barriers to care achieve better dental and overall health.
A Growing Partnership for Community Health
SCAN is excited to collaborate with WellFort Community Health Services as part of our broader initiative:
Building Resilient Communities through Health Equity
Through this program, SCAN seeks to align efforts with WellFort’s comprehensive services to enhance access and equity in healthcare across our communities. This includes shared goals and services in the areas of:
- Dental Care
- Diabetes Education and Support
- Healthcare Services
- Health Promotion Programs
Together, SCAN and WellFort aim to break down systemic barriers and build stronger, healthier communities by promoting inclusive, culturally responsive, and accessible healthcare for everyone.
Why This Matters
Oral health is more than just a nice smile—it’s a vital part of overall well-being. Poor dental care can lead to serious health conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and even affect mental health and self-esteem. These risks are often amplified in vulnerable communities due to a lack of access to affordable dental services.
SCAN and Wellfort are committed to closing this gap by providing accessible, inclusive dental health education and support. Together, we aim to improve health outcomes for:
- Low-income seniors
- Newcomer families
- Youth in marginalized communities
What to Expect
This hand-on workshop will:
- Guide families in accessing free dental care through the Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO) program and Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program (OSDCP). This includes routine, preventive, emergency dental services for children and youth under 17 from low-income households and free dental care for seniors as well (Must meet the eligibility requirements).
- Educate participants on good oral hygiene practices and sugar reduction, emphasizing prevention and long-term health.
- Support families in navigating eligibility and application processes for dental programs like HSO, the Emergency and Essential Services (EESS) program and Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program (OSDCP).
- Offer a family-friendly space where participants can meet dental professionals and get advice.
What You’ll Receive
All workshop attendees will receive:
✅ Free dental care for eligible youth and seniors
✅ Assistance with applying for public dental programs
✅ Free oral care kits to take home
✅ Free massage therapy offered onsite
