Now more than ever, with the Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in full swing in parts of the world, the urgency for access to clean water in developing countries is heightened, considering that clean water plays a massive role in its prevention and control. Soaps, hand sanitizes, food, shelter, especially for the infected, are also high up on the list.

In different parts of the world, organizations are working alongside governments to help combat this pandemic as governments cannot do it alone. People are hopefully doing their part by staying home, staying safe and self-isolating when they start to feel sick.

Social distancing is also being advocated. It will be interesting to know how social distancing is being communicated in poor villages with no internet access or knowledge of the internet. Also, in internally displaced peoples (IDP) camps were homes (tents) are clustered together and everyone lives communally in one big space. In these areas, online interactions cannot be used, and in-person meetings are the only form of communication between the people in the community and with the aid workers. God forbid these areas to get infected with COVID-19.

The challenge aid workers will have to meet during this COVID-19 pandemic is learning how to stay safe while continuing to provide much-needed assistance and education.

Governments and organizations must not relent in providing for these communities despite these challenges. Aid workers provide an essential service much like the health care providers, and we pray that God keeps them safe and keep all of us safe as well during this trying time of the Coronavirus Pandemic.
