On July 12, 2018, Start Right Centre was presented with a LifeStraw Community (LSC) courtesy of the Safe Drinking Water Project by EnvironFocus. The Safe Drinking Water Project provides an avenue for individuals and organizations wanting to assist a Nigerian school, village, orphanage, Internally Displaced People camp with access to safe and clean drinking water free of pathogenic micro-organisms that cause waterborne diseases.
The Start Right Centre is a school for children with autism in Surulere, Lagos Nigeria. The school was established in 2007 and through its learning programmes has been putting smiles on the faces of parents, seeing their children responding and improving in all aspects. The school was selected to receive the LifeStraw Community based on recommendations from one of such parents. The parent spoke very highly of the work the school does with the children. The school does not receive funding from Government or any other entity.
EnvironFocus is happy to be able to provide this deserving school access to safe and clean drinking water, reducing the need to buy water for the children, leaving more money in their pocket to attend to other needs with the assurance that their children will not have to worry about contracting waterborne diseases such as cholera, typhoid, diarrhea etc. that are prevalent in Nigeria. The use of the LSC will reduce the number of plastics being introduced into the environment because the need to buy plastic water bottles and sachets will be eliminated.
We would like to extend our deep appreciation and gratefully acknowledge this act of kindness by the people who made this donation possible and they are as follows:
- Adesuwa Ndulue, Ontario Canada
