The Redwood’s work as an Emergency Shelter, provides safety for 200 women and children each year. We work hard to help women live free from not only violence, but also from poverty. When women leave an abusive relationship, they usually end up living in poverty – which can lead women right back to their abusive relationship. This is especially common with women with children. The shelter system is viewed as a chance to survive but in order to move on and thrive, women need a job that offers a living wage and family benefits.
HVAC & Heat Pump
At The Redwood’s, Women In Trade & Technology we always look for ways to equip our participants with extra knowledge that will give them a boost and great advantage when seeking employment. Our participants in HVAC excel in what they do and we are proud that many of them show interest in learning about heat pumps. This is an eco-friendlier approach and sustainable option so that we can help to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to a greener and more sustainable future.
The world of HVAC is changing over the years and the industry is rapidly evolving, now that provinces, cities and municipalities are implementing a more sustainable future by pushing eco-friendly cooling solutions, the employability piece for those that train in HVAC/Heat Pump will be higher and it will be a great news for all that wanted to join in this field. There is a rising demand for commercial industry and homeowners alike using
heat pump to save costs as well as contributing to a greener and more sustainable future.
License Gas Technician in HVAC – G3 License
HVAC staffing participants are training to get their G3 license, adding heat pump training to the curriculum will be helpful learning on how to do installation, and maintenance will be a huge factor. Government of Canada is taking a step forward in switching to heat pumps as a way towards a more sustainable future. They implement what they called Hybrid system which is a heat pump combined with a gas or oil furnace, and it is deemed as one of the best systems markets can have for efficiency and comfort.
Government and suppliers are offering a huge pull factor for consumers and homeowners to switch to heat pump by offering rebates and loans through the Government of Canada. This move will create great opportunities for our participants here at the Women in Trades especially those that are doing training to be a license Gas Technician in HVAC. It will boost the employability piece, the demands for Gas Technician will increase and with the knowledge on how to install and do maintenance in Heat Pumps will be valued by employers. This is the very important piece that is why we at the WITT supports participants every step of the way not only to break the cycle of abuse, but also the cycle of poverty by giving them the chance to find an employment that lead to financial stability.
As one of our graduates put it:
I think that it’s something that’s so important to our world at large and that starts with small changes within the home, workplace or public spaces of human occupancy. We are living in a time where we really have the power to create great and important change and that starts with decisions we make now. The effects of climate change have never been more evident and most don’t realize that the small decisions we make within our homes most importantly and how we heat and cool them have a big impact overall. This will very much continue not only in the coming years but future decades and will be an important issue we all face as a society. “Elizebeth*
